At Cedar College’s CSR Department, our mission is to foster empathy, leadership, and a sense of social responsibility among our students by transforming compassion into action. Through initiatives like the Cedar Charity Carnival, we aim to create sustainable impact by supporting community-driven projects that empower marginalized groups, promote education, and build resilience.
We believe that true learning extends beyond classrooms — it takes shape in acts of service, collaboration, and commitment to social change. From rebuilding homes and installing solar energy systems in Dadu to establishing vocational and early learning centres in Khuda ki Basti, our efforts are rooted in the belief that every community deserves opportunity, dignity, and hope.
By uniting students, educators, and partners under one shared vision, we strive to create a culture of giving back, where every Cedar initiative stands as a testament to the power of empathy, the strength of community, and the impact of education in building a brighter, more equitable future for all.
Cedar Carnival
Cedar College values the importance of social responsibility. In this endeavour, Cedar is dedicated to fostering empathy, leadership and initiative in our students.
The first Cedar Charity Carnival was held in 2023 and successfully raised funds for Karachi Relief Trust, with all proceeds going towards funding two critical projects that were initiated through previous carnival proceeds: The Khuda ki Basti Women and Child centre, providing quality education for children and technical training for underprivileged women Continued rehabilitation of the village Dadu, rebuilt after the floods of 2022, where we plan on installing solar panels for sustainable energy purposes.
On 2nd February 2025, Cedar College hosted its third annual Cedar Charity Carnival. From 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, families, students and visitors from all over Karachi gathered to enjoy a day packed with different activities, delicious food, and creative stalls, all for a meaningful cause
The carnival featured a vibrant bazaar, where local vendors showcased their products, from clothing to handmade crafts. The arts and crafts section, with eight fun activities, was a hit among children, while the baking corner, nail art bar, and bookmark painting attracted visitors of all ages.
Popular games like “Jeeto Cedar” kept the excitement alive, with more attractions like the Haunted House and the Escape Room. No festival is complete without food, and Cedar’s Food Street was a treat for all. With a variety of dishes, from fast food to traditional delicacies, visitors indulged in flavours that made the experience even more enjoyable.
This event was not just about entertainment—it was a mission driven by purpose, proving that when a community unites, real change happens. Under the patronage of Ms. Dilnaz Avari, Ms. Aysha Sheikh and Cedar’s student body, the event was a huge success, and each year, it only gets better.
Khuda ki Basti
In the heart of Khuda Ki Basti, an underprivileged area in Karachi, a significant change is taking place, thanks to the vision and dedication of Ms. Dilnaz X. Avari, the Chairperson of Cedar College Carnival and Founder of the NGO, Empowering Communities for Change (ECC). The project, which includes the establishment of a Vocational Training Centre for Women and an Early Learning Centre for Children, aims to uplift the community through education, skill-building, and empowerment. Khuda Ki Basti, often overlooked by mainstream initiatives, has long faced the challenges of poverty, limited access to quality education, and lack of professional development opportunities. Recognising the urgent need for change, Ms. Avari sought to create spaces that would not only equip individuals with critical skills but also provide children with a foundation for a brighter future. The Vocational Training Centre was specifically designed for women in the community. It covers courses in various trades, empowering women to become financially independent and contribute meaningfully to their households. These courses range from tailoring and beauty services to computer literacy and entrepreneurship, all aimed at enhancing their skills and improving their quality of life. The centre provides a safe, supportive environment where women can learn, grow, and gain the confidence to explore new opportunities. Additionally, the Early Learning Centre caters to the younger generation, focusing on providing children with a strong educational foundation in their early years. The centre covers pre-school education, after-school support, and extracurricular activities that nurture creativity, critical thinking, and social development. By investing in the children of today, the centre hopes to break the cycle of poverty and pave the way for a more promising future for Khuda Ki Basti’s next generation
This transformative initiative would not have been possible without the generous support garnered from the second annual Cedar College Charity Carnival in 2024, where proceeds raised from the event directly funded the construction of these essential community spaces. The Carnival, an annual event organised by Cedar College, brought together students, faculty, and supporters from all walks of life in a united effort to raise awareness and funds for this noble cause. Looking ahead, the Empowering Community for Change (ECC) and Cedar College Charity Carnival is committed to continuing its efforts in transforming lives through education, skill-building, and community development. This project represents just the beginning of a brighter future for the women and children of Khuda Ki Basti. The Vocational Training Centre and Early Learning Centre stand as a testament to what can be achieved when individuals come together with a shared vision and commitment to creating lasting change. These centres are not only hubs of education and skill development but also symbols of hope for a community striving for progress
Rebuilding Hope: A Community Revitalization Initiative in Dadu, Sindh
In 2023, Cedar embarked on a transformative journey to rebuild a village in Dadu, Sindh, that had been severely affected by the catastrophic floods of 2022. This initiative, driven by the vision of Ms. Dilnaz X. Avari, the Chairperson of the Cedar College Charity Carnival and founder of the NGO Empowering Communities for Change (ECC), aimed to restore not just the physical infrastructure but also the spirit of the community. With the generous support of the Karachi Relief Trust (KRT), we were able to rebuild homes, restore livelihoods, and provide essential services to the families who were hit hardest by the disaster. The funds for this monumental effort were raised through the Cedar College Charity Carnival 2023, an event that brought together the power of community, compassion, and commitment to make a tangible di erence in the lives of those who needed it the most. Ms. Dilnaz Avari’s leadership and dedication to empowering marginalized communities were instrumental in the success of this project. Her unwavering commitment to social change and her belief in the power of collective action have had a lasting impact on the village.
But our work does not end here. With a vision for the future, we are now planning to establish an Early Years Education Centre in the village which will provide children with the opportunity to receive quality education from an early age, empowering the next generation and setting the foundation for long-term community development. Cedar College has proven to be a catalyst for positive change, and we are excited to continue this journey of transformation. With the support of our community, partners, and donors, we remain committed to creating lasting impact and empowering communities for a brighter, more sustainable future
